Hello, welcome to my world. I am Maria.

I live in Malaysia but I often fly to Australia. I especially love Melbourne and it is like a second home to me. This website is dedicated to readers who want to find out more about Melbourne, places of interest, things to do, places to go, great restaurants and everything else you need to have a great holiday.

Melbourne has a nice art scene. There are great art museums, and lots of theatres. It is not at all boring as some small cities are but is dynamic and vibrant. The night life is not bad. Shopping however is difficult as you have to hurry. It is crazy but true that most outlets close at 5:30pm. The overall impression is quiet and clean. It is a good place to visit for a short period.

Travel around the city is a breeze with public transport especially to tourist spots. Just ask around for public transport information and ticket sales. Purchase a city map from the stations.

I just love to walk around the city. It is smaller than Kuala Lumpur. Flinder's street and Swanson are two of the main streets in Melbourne.

This is where all the shops are. Shopping is fun there and the service is ok. Don't expect the servile attitudes of the less developed countries though. Politeness and courtesy is everything. Everybody is extremely polite. So please be polite too.

I stayed at the outskirts. I first stayed in Prahran and later stayed in Collingwood. Be prepared for unpredictable weather though. You can get all 4 seasons in a day. There is no snow and when it is hot, it is hot and dry. When it is cold, it is bout -4 to about 18 degrees Celcius.

For back pack travelers, cheap accommodation is available. There are lots of backpacker motels. The hotel room rates vary. It is best to change money in Malaysia before leaving for Australia.

I like to stay at The Mercure. The rooms there are a bargain and it is a proper hotel room. I feel very safe and at home there. There is one in the centre of the city and another is nearer to the park.

Excluding hotel fare, RM300 a day should be enough for expenses per day for back pack travelers. There are many airlines flying to Melbourne from Kuala Lumpur including SIA, MAS, KLM, Austrian Air, Thai Air. The flight is about seven and 10 minutes from Kuala Lumpur.

Enjoy your holiday in Melbourne.
