The Queen Victoria Market, and other places of interest.![]() Regardless of the currency exchange, I still love to shop for fashions in Melbourne. Some are really high-end and if one is lucky one might even meet and chat with the designer personally. Is it a surprise then that some call Melbourne a shopping nirvana? Or just pay a visit to the The Queen Victoria Market. It is more than a century old. The ‘Queen Vic’ was opened in 1878. Be amazed at the freshness of the agricultural produce, the fruits, vegetables and things which interest a tourist like clothing, baggage, toys, food, jewelry, and souvenirs. This is not a high-end outlet so the prices are reasonable. It is in a way reminiscent of shopping a century ago. The building itself evokes such sentiments. After a busy day shopping and to rest weary feet, stop and visit cafes & roasting houses, sampling blends. Sip some expresso coffee and savor a great roast done the authentic, original way by its earliest immigrants. Just watch the world go by. Or just follow what I do. I never fail to frequent Melbourne's outlets selling chocolate and desserts. At the same time I explore the city's streets, lanes and arcades. My mother particularly loved our stroll through Chinatown. A visit to the Museum of Chinese Australian History is an interesting experience. It is not free but it is worth a visit. My mother still brags about the Feng Sui tour she joined. |
