Nightlife in Melbourne.Tourists in Melbourne need not worry about nightlife. There is always another place to go and just enjoy the city. Melbourne has many types of pubs, bars, and nightclubs for example the ubiquitous faux-Irish pubs, traditional Aussie hotels, upmarket wine bars, serious jazz venues on Bennetts Lane, fashionable nightclubs and dance venues and pickup joints.Go to Brunswick Street for its restaurants and bars. King Street still has some of the best nightclubs and brothels. Yes, you did not read wrong.
Small brothels are legal in Victoria and are tolerated if they operate discretely. For upmarket stuff go to Chapel Street, Prahran. If you go to St Kilda, you will find the famous Esplanade Hotel (known as 'the Espy'), the Prince of Wales, and The Palace. On its beachside setting, it also combines the upmarket with the grungy. If you are in the mood for adventure, drop in at the underground bars and sidewalk cafes in the alleys between Flinders Street - Flinders Lane and Bourke Street - Lonsdale Street. Some friends of mine recommend Block Arcade/Block Place (off Little Collins Street), Degraves Street (off Flinders Lane), and Hardware Lane (between Bourke and Lonsdale Streets). If you are looking for the alternative life-style, visit gay-friendly bars across the city. Try out two gay villages - Commercial Rd, South Yarra and Smith St, Collingwood, but that is not all. You can also find some gay night life in St Kilda, Fitzroy, Richmond and Yarraville. Enjoy your stay in Mlebourne. :) |
